Buffy and Dawn rid the house of everything remotely magickal while Willow watches on sadly. Buffy finds Spike's lighter while cleaning the house, bringing back memories. Meanwhile, Warren has designed a gun that will make objects (including people) invisible and uninvisible. The next morning, Dawn refuses Willow's homemade omelet and leaves late for school. Spike appears suddenly asking for his lighter, which Buffy says she doesn't have. Willow goes upstairs to get dresses while Spike approaches Buffy, calling her pet names and telling her that he loves her hair. Xander walks in and yells at Spike for trying to hit on Buffy again. Then the social services worker shows up and she is not at all pleased with the way Buffy runs the house. She is putting Buffy on probation, which means she'll be watching Buffy very carefully in the next coming weeks. She leaves and Buffy tells Spike to get lost. He reaches into her pocket, pulls out his lighter and heads off. Buffy then goes upstairs distraught at the turn of events and cuts off large chunks of her hair. She goes to a stylist and tells her to make her different.

Warren, Andrew and Jonathan go out to test their invisibility gun but they acidentally hit Buffy with the ray, making her disappear. Buffy goes back to the Magic Box surprising Anya and Xander by her unappearance. They try to figure out why she's invisible but Buffy doesn't seem to really care and decides to go for a walk. Xander fears that Willow made Buffy invisible and goes to the Summers' house to talk to her. Willow is immediately offended and storms out for a walk.

Meanwhile Buffy is playing tricks on people; taking away hats, driving away cars. She finally ends up at the social service's office and driving the lady insane by whispering in her ear and floating things in front of her eyes. Her supervisor think she's losisng her mind and has someone replace Doris for the Summers' case. Xander finds Willow spray-painting invisible objects outside. She's found black paint chips and Xander takes an invisible pylon to the Magic Box where he and Anya start researching. Anya touches the pylon, only to find out that her hand sinks into it, like pudding. They think the same thing may happen to Buffy if she doesn't become visible soon.

Xander goes to Spike's crypt and finds him in bed with an invisible Buffy (though he doesn't know or see Buffy). But Spike passes it off as exercise. Xander tells Spike about invisible Buffy and how it's important for her to become visible again. Xander leaves and Spike is semi-angry that he can't have a tangible Buffy. She's half dead this way. Buffy goes home and Dawn is freaked out by her invisibility. Dawn flips out that Buffy doesn't care and won't talk to her sister anymore. Buffy then hears the message left on her answering machine by Xander; if she isn't made visible soon then she'll start to fade away.

After getting plate and address numbers from the DMV, Willow has found the threesome's lair and discovers the schematics for the invisibility gun. But they find her and take her hostage. Jonathan calls Buffy and tells her to meet them at the arcade, or Willow gets it. At the arcade Warren then agrees to change Buffy back to visible but Willow notices that the gun is on the wrong setting because Warren had no intention of making Buffy visible again. They start fighting and Willow zaps them all visible again. Buffy recognizes Warren and Jonathan, but they run off before she can damage them anymore.

Willow and Buffy leave the arcade and sit down outside.Willow is exhausted from not using any spells because she had to do everything the hard way. Buffy tells her that when she found out she was fading away she got scared. Which is a change for her because a couple weeks ago she would have wanted to die. In a depressing sort of way, things are looking up.

Xander: "Still trying to mack on Buffy? Wake up already! Never gonna happen! Only a complete loser would ever hook up with you. Well, unless she's a simpleton like Harmony, or a, or a nut sack like Drusilla.."

Anya: "Well, where do I put D'Hoffryn?"
Xander: "We're not inviting D'Hoffryn!"
Anya: "We have to, he's my ex-boss! You're inviting your work buddies."

Xander: "Rhymes with.. 'blinvisible'?"
Willow: "What?"
Xander: Buffy was in town, leaving the haircutting place, when she suddenly just.."
Willow: "Buffy got her hair cut?"
Xander: "Yeah! Adorable, apparently.. I personally couldn't tell, since she's all 'blinvisible'."

Invisible Warren: "You haven't won yet, Slayer!"
Buffy: "No, that part comes after I beat the snot out of you."

Willow: "Oh my god, Buffy!"
Buffy: "I know, they're gone. I guess we should chase them.."
Willow: "No, your hair! It is adorable!"
