At the Summers' house Willow, Anya and Xander are discussing how the annoying threesome ran away from their lair after the incident at the arcade last night. Buffy then comes down from her room wearing a tacky orange outfit complete with an animal shaped hat. She's taken on a job at the Doublemeat Palace (a burger place) and her training consists of a video that scares the crap out her as well as a tour of the place. Manny, the manager, is a total dolt and he shows her around where all the employees seem lifeless. She's taught how to work the cash register and she comments that manager is a freak to another employee who is trying to train her. An old woman customer says that she hopes Buffy will be working there for a long time, unlike the others who all seem to disappear. The gang then shows up to support Buffy's job. She tells them that she feels there's something wrong here: that people disappear and there's the secret ingredient in the burgers but that no one knows what it's made up of.

That night Spike shows up at the Doublemeat Palace and tells Buffy that she doesn't belong here, that she's not happy. She walks away saying she needs the money. Outside, Gary, the teen that tried to train Buffy, is attacked by a monster.

The next day Buffy returns to work to find that Gary hasn't returned. Buffy is then taught the grill by a guy that tells her he gets so greasy that his ears plug up. She is then given a double shift because another employee didn't show up as well. Meanwhile at Xander and Anya's apartment, a demon named Halfrek scares the bejesus out of Xander by appearing and threatening to tear him apart... that is, until she spots Anyanka and the two girls hug excitedly. Anya had invited Hallie to the wedding but somehow the message got across wrong. Buffy goes on her break at work, only to have sex with Spike in the alley.

Amy visits Willow at the Summers' residence. She wants to keep the rat cage as a memory of her past two years of life. Amy then starts talking about magick and how Willow is going to be boring without it. She then casts a spell on Willow that makes her fingers crackle with energy. Everything she touches crumbles as Amy leaves.

Buffy, at work, finds a finger in the meat grinder. Manny doesn't know what to say and she believes they're grinding people as the secret ingredient. She runs out to the floor and turns over tables and plates screaming that they're grinding people as food. She's then fired after she physically fight with all the store employees who are trying to restrain her. Back at the apartment, Hallie questions Anya for wanting to marry someone that corrects her all the time. But Anya assures her that Xander is just trying to tell her how to act like a normal human being.

Wigged about the finger, Buffy calls a meeting at the shop, but only Dawn and Xander show up. She tells them that she suspects they're grinding people at the Doublemeart Palace. She wants to have the burger she brought back analyzed but Xander accidentally eats it, not realizing that they think it's human. Buffy goes back to the Palace to look for more evidence. While walking around she trips over several body parts, all belonging to the former manager, Manny. At the Magic Box, Willow analyzes the scraps left over of the meat product with chemistry. She finally realizes that it isn't human, nor is it meat for that matter. Back at the Palace, Buffy is surprised by the old woman regular who's scalp splits open to release a large snake demon that paralyzes a person's body. Buffy tries to get away and has to drag herself on the ground while the old woman follows her, eager to eat her. Willow rushes over the the Palace and through the drive-thru window tells Buffy about the "meat" product, which is actually made up of ogranic vegetables. She then tells her how Amy made her use magick and she feels all shaky because of it. The lady starts eating away at Buffy's shoulder until Willow shows up and cuts the woman's snake off and throws it into the meat grinder.

The nexat day Amy goes to Willow's to borrow some detergent. But Willow won't let her in and tells her that she can't see her anymore and it's best if Amy stays away from her. Meanwhile the Doublemeat Palace now has a new manager. Once the new manager learns that Buffy knows about the secret ingredient she offers Buffy her job back.

Buffy: "Uh.. yeah. The cow and chicken coming together even though they never met.. It was like Sleepless in Seattle if Tom and Meg were, like, minced."

Buffy: "Here you go. One Medley Meal. Plus I doublesized your fries.. and cut way back on the cat."
Xander: "Hhmm?"
Buffy: "I'm probably kidding."

Buffy über die Doppelschicht: "What? Another eight hours? Right after these eight hours? That's.. so many hours!"

Xander: "Okay, but maybe you'll be a lawyer or doctor and you can use your money to support your deadbeat sister!"
Dawn: "Oh, that's terrifically better. Thanks."

Anya: "Is there something wrong with that? Did you think she was unattractive?"
Xander: "Okay, is there an answer to that that won't make you nuts?"
