A girl is being chased through the woods by two Bringers. As she reaches the road a truck pulls up in front of her and she quickly scrambles in while the man dressed as a preacher drives the car on. He's a bit surprised, especially since she looks like she's being followed by devil worshippers. She tells him that she just needs a ride to Sunnydale and, coincidentally, he's going there himself. He introduces himself as Caleb and she in turn tells him that she's Shannon. He then babbles on about how all women are whores and born dirty and without a soul. He proceeds to brand her by heating up his ring and then embedding it into her neck and then tells her he has a message he wants her to deliver to the Slayer. He grabs a knife and sticks it in her stomach and whispers in her ear what he wants her to say and then throws her out of the truck. Behind them, Willow and Faith rush out of the car on their way back from Los Angeles and pick up the girl who is obviously severely injured.

At Xander's apartment, he's fantasizing about the the potential Slayers offering themselves to him and having pillow fights in their underwear. He's suddenly brought back to reality when Rona interrupts his thoughts, demanding that the toilet be fixed. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Willow fills in Faith a bit about the First Evil and Faith's a bit pissed, angry that no one gave her a head's up about the badness. Willow stays at the hospital to watch over Shannon while Faith runs off to the cemetery, in search of Buffy. She drops in on Spike chasing down a girl in the cemetery and immediately attacks him. He tries to explain himself, realizing that she's the other Slayer but they continue pummeling each other until Buffy steps in and punches Faith across the face. Faith is ever so not impressed that Buffy is protecting Spike but learns quickly that Spike has a soul. Suddenly the girl she thought was helpless turns out to be a vampire that Faith steps in and stakes. They take her back home, where Dawn is less than pleased to see her. They set Faith up for the night while Buffy heads off to the hospital to check on Willow and the potential Slayer. Spike explains the awkwardness between Buffy and Giles, saying that Giles had tried to kill him against Buffy's wishes.

At a vineyard somewhere, Caleb explains to the First Evil that he can't turn his back on his past, which is why he still wears the preacher clothing, even though he doesn't follow religion anymore. As he stares at the vision of the First in Buffy's guise, he begins to realize that he's staring at the figure of the Slayer. He's happy to finally get to see what a Slayer and this is his reward for having blown up the Watcher's Council for the First. Back at the Summers' home, Andrew tells to the potential Slayers about Faith's past, slipping up and saying that Faith killed a Vulcan, instead of a volcanologist. However, he says to be wary of Faith, because she IS a killer. Buffy shows up for work the next day and resolves her conflicted issues with Principal Wood. He then proceeds to fire her, on the grounds that he doesn't have any work for her and she's needed back at home to help train the girls. But Buffy seems reluctant to want to go back home.

Meanwhile, back at the Summers' place, Faith goes down to the basement for a cigarette break, and finds Spike down there, who decides to join her for a smoke. Faith has had it hanging out with females; she got enough of them in jail. Faith then tells Spike that she met him before, when she was wearing a different body. And he realizes it was her that told him she could "pop him like warm champagne." Which is when Spike lets slip that Buffy has been getting her "naughty on." At that point, Buffy comes downstairs, less than pleased to see Faith and Spike chatting it up. Buffy then gets news that the girl in the hospital is awake. She rushes over, where Willow has been keeping watch over her. Shannon briefly recounts what happened with the preacher, Caleb, and shows them the burn mark that he gave her on her neck. She relates the message from Caleb, which is that he has something of Buffy's. Once at home again, Buffy says that they're going to take the fight directly to him; she's done waiting. However, almost no one agrees with her decision, despite that, she takes Faith and Spike out to do recon and hopefully uncover where Caleb is hiding.

The trio go out into the forest, Spike goes on ahead of the girls, tracking something. Buffy then asks why Faith came back, sounding a little insulting, although she admits that she's glad that Faith can help them out. They locate where the Bringers and Caleb are and head back to get the potential Slayers. Xander tries to rally up the potentials and ends up giving a speech that he knows Buffy's heart and he trusts her implicitly and that they all should as well. Buffy and Faith hear the tail end of Xander's speech and it touches her immensely. She then takes the strongest potentials and heads out to the vineyard. Buffy, Spike, Kennedy and some of the potentials enter the vineyard while the others stay outside to guard. They're immediately attacked by Bringers and they successfully manage to hold their own. That is, until Caleb makes his appearance. He apparently doesn't have anything of Buffy's, he just wanted to get her here. He then proceeds to punch her, launching her all the way across the room. Spike tries to attack but gets almost nowhere with Caleb. The fight resumes and the rest of the cavalry runs in. Caleb manages to successfully kill two potential Slayers and break Rona's arm. Realizing it's a losing battle, Buffy orders everyone to retreat immediately. They're all heading out when suddenly Caleb gets his hands on Xander. Realizing that he's the one who sees everything, Caleb vows to change that and plunges his finger into Xander's eye, destroying Xander's eye as he screams in utter pain. Everyone ends up in the hospital and Buffy returns home, completely destroyed of her resolve because she no longer knows what to do.

Willow: "This girl's bleeding badly. We have to get her to the hospital."
Faith: "Yep. Guess I'm back in Sunnydale."

Spike: "Bloody hell! What're you doing? I'm on your side."
Faith: "Yeah? Maybe you haven't heard. I've reformed."
Spike: "So have I. I reformed way before you did. Stop... hitting... me! We're on the same side."
Faith: "Please, you think I'm stupid?"
Spike: "Well, yeah."

Faith: "You're protecting vampires? Are you the bad Slayer now? ... Am I the good Slayer now?"

Faith: "Whoa. Memory Lane. Same old house."
Buffy: "Yeah, well, every piece of furniture's been destroyed and replaced since you left, so, actually, new house."

Caleb: "Yeah, she'll get the message."
First: "And what makes you so sure she'll come?"
Caleb: "Curiosity. Woman's first sin. I offer her an apple. What can she do but take it? I'll see you soon."

Buffy: "Couldn't I just come to work part-time? I could make flyers for encounter groups and post them up all over school."
Robin: "And you're fired again. Remember, Buffy, the mission's what matters."

Buffy: "We've got a new player in town. Dresses like a preacher, calls himself Caleb. Looks like he's working for the First. He's taunting us, calling us out. Says he's got something of mine. Could be another girl, could be something else. Don't know. Don't care. I'm tired of talking, I'm tired of training. He's got something of mine? Fine. I'm getting it back. And you guys are coming with me."

Giles: "We know nothing about this man. We cannot go into battle unprepared. We have to have more time.
Buffy: "Giles, we don't have time. And you're not going into battle. I need you to stay behind with the others. Help the girls who still need a teacher."

Buffy: "Why did you come back?"
Faith: "Willow said you needed me. Didn't give it a lot of thought. Do you... am I getting you want me to be not here?"
Buffy: "No, that's not what I meant. I'm... glad that you're here. It's good. Thank you."

Caleb: "You're the one who sees everything, aren't you? Well, let's see what we can't do about that."

Caleb: "You show up, they'll get in line. 'Cause they followed her. And all they have to do is take one more step, and I'll kill them all. See? I told you it had a happy ending."
