The cemetery, at night - The Trio are chasing down two vampires (the vampires are running, the Trio are on motorbikes). Unfortunately for them, they don't get to the vamps, but Buffy does. As she begins fighting with them, a disc drops out from one of the vampire's pockets. Warren grabs it while Buffy's looking the other way and the Trio runs off quickly. Spike appears on the scene, he wants Buffy to tell her friends about them. She doesn't want to, but she figures that if they do find out, they won't care. He then asks her why she won't sleep with him again, to which she replies "because I don't love you." Meanwhile Xander is in his apartment, downing copious amounts of beer and listening to the music of pain. He suddenly gets up and walks out of his apartment and goes for a walk and we can see that Anya is hiding in the bushes by his place, watching him.

The next day, Willow, intentionally, runs in to Tara after class. They're slightly giggly around each other and Tara assures her that the friend Willow saw her with yesterday was just that; a friend. They decide to meet each other for coffee tomorrow, with possible date-like qualities. Buffy and Dawn are out shopping, trying to figure out which stores to go into that Dawn wasn't banned from due to her kleptomania. Meanwhile, Jonathan is preparing a special concoction while Warren and Andrew try to decide whether or not to trust him.

Later on, much to his shock, Xander returns home to find Anya in his apartment. He tries to apologize to her and professes his love. But then he goes on to say that he should have told her earlier that he didn't want to get married, which only angers her even more because she still wants to marry him. She becomes more and more angry and finally turns away from him. As her face changes into the demonic visage of Anyanka, she wishes that he was never born. But the wish doesn't work, no matter how hard she tries, confusing her to no end. Anya seeks out Hallie and tells her about her problem with casting her wish. Hallie informs her that she can't exact justice on someone on behalf of herself, and the only way to get her wish cast is to get someone to make the wish for her.

The next day, Buffy goes out of her way to serve Dawn a massive breakfast, claiming that she wants them to spend more time together as sisters. Dawn suggests that maybe she could join Buffy on patrol, but Buffy is not at all keen on the idea. Tara and Willow are out for coffee when Anya finds them. They're surprised to see her but Anya gets right to the point; she's trying to convince them to cast a wish. Anya also tries to get Dawn to cast a wish and Buffy as well. But all of them stand firm and don't say "I wish" despite Anya's attempts. Xander comes home to Buffy's place to find Anya there, but Anya storms off quickly. Angered, Xander kicks a lawn gnome, it breaks open and they find a camera inside. Xander immediately assumes it's Spike who's been spying on Buffy, but Buffy takes the camera to Spike, half thinking that he did in fact do it. He tells her that he would never hurt her, even if she doesn't believe him. She does believe him though, and it is real, to him, and not her. She tells him he has to move on and get over it, but he only orders her out of his crypt. Later on, Hallie and Anya are discussing Xander again when Spike walks in the shop. He's looking for a numbing spell band Anya realizes that he'd be perfect to cast a wish against Xander. Anya pulls out a full bottle of whiskey; it'll help his pain go away.

Meanwhile, Willow is trying to hack into the video camera's network system and find out where the Trio are located. The Trio is using the disc to help them locate a particular area on the map of Sunnydale. It works... until the map starts flaming. At the Magic Box, Spike and Anya are downing shot after shot of the whiskey while Anya tries to convince him to make a wish against Xander. As they get more and more drunk they start to sympathize with each other. Willow manages to hack into the network of cameras and realizes that there's more than just the one camera feed. She finds cameras located all over Sunnydale. Anya and Spike polish off the bottle of whiskey and proceed to kiss each other, looking for some type of happiness in one another. As they begin to get more and more passionate, Willow finally taps into the camera at the Magic Box and everyone, including the Trio, Buffy, Willow, Xander and Dawn can see Spike and Anya copulating on the table at the Magic Box. Xander is reasonably shocked, but both Willow and Dawn notice something off about Buffy's face... as if she cared. Xander rushes off to the Magic Box, battle axe in hand, while Buffy sits outside while Dawn berates her for not having told her about her "affair" with Spike. After their... sexual interlude... Spike walks out of the Magic Box only to be knocked to the wall by Xander. Xander begins to pummel Spike as Buffy races around the corner and stops him just before he manages to stake Spike. Xander verbally attacks Anya for what she did which is when Spike cuts in and says it was good enough for Buffy. Having lost complete hope in the women he was closest to, Xander drops his stake and walks off, not wanting to know any more.

Back at Buffy's house, Tara finds Willow in her room upstairs. She tells her that it takes time and that they have so much to work through to build their trust again. But she cuts herself off, she wants to skip all that and just have Willow kissing her now. Happily, they fly into each other's embrace.

Tara: "Hey."
Willow: "Look at you. All coming-out-of-class and everything."
Tara: "I do that sometimes. Usually at the end part of the class."

Buffy: "Hey, you didn't steal anything from the pet store, did you?"
Dawn: "Pocketful of goldfish. Didn't work out. No."

Buffy: "What kind of syrup you want on your pancakes?"
Dawn: "Syrup comes in kinds?"

Buffy: "I don't think he could feel any worse."
Anya: "Let's test that theory."
Buffy: "Anya, Xander's my friend. I know what he did was wrong and if it had happened to me I'd..."
Anya: "...wish his penis would explode?"

Anya: "Did I mention the whole 'left at the altar'-thing? Didn't leave that out, did I?"
Buffy: "No, I know, what he did was wrong. God. I can't imagine.. It must have been torture!"
Anya: "Okay, let's talk about torture!"

Dawn: "So.. This is it? This is the stuff you've been protecting me from? You and Spike?"
Buffy: "..and a lot of monsters."
Dawn: "Uh-huh.."

Spike: "Stupid tossbag. You know, I wish he would..."
Anya: "Don't."
