Glory is in her apartment and even though she has the key she realizes that she isn't entirely happy, which baffles her. Back at the abandoned gas station, everyone is ready to go but Buffy hasn't moved or spoken since Glory kidnapped Dawn and every attempt to wake her do not work. Everyone starts to argue until Willow intervenes, taking charge; they're all going to return to Sunnydale and Spike will search for Glory while Willow tries to help Buffy. Spike mentions Ben being Glory but nobody understands even though they saw it happen right before their eyes. Spike then realizes that Glory must have cast a spell on humans to prevent them from realizing that Glory and Ben are the same person. Meanwhile Glory takes Dawn to the tower where she is to be sacrificed. Glory then tries to comfort a terrified Dawn, she tells her that her role as a key is so much more important than her human body. Glory then realizes that she's starting to fell guilty about her actions but she's not supposed to feel guilt and figures that Dawn cast a spell on her. Dawn is then annointed by Glory's minions in preparation for tomorrow's event.
Once they're back in Sunnydale, Willow leaves Tara with Anya then goes to a separate room with Buffy. She sets up candles and concentrates until she submerges herself into Buffy's mind. She finds herself face to face with a very young Buffy. Willow tries to talk to Buffy but the kid tells her that she likes it here. Joyce and Hank Summers then walk in with a just-born baby Dawn and almost immediately Buffy wants to take care of her. The scene switches and Willow is brought to Giles' shop where Buffy puts away a book. It switches again to find Willow in the desert where Buffy's quest took place. Giles is patched up att he hospital where Spike and Xander meet him. Spike found Glory's apartment empty. Meanwhile Glory is starting to have headaches because Ben's memories are seeping into her brain and she can't figure out why their consciences are bleeding together. She transforms into Ben then reverst back to Glory. Her minion tells her this is the price she pays for opening up the portals. Glory then talks to Dawn about life on Earth, Glory doesn't understand how people can like acting as puppets where their emotions control them. She then changes into Ben and Ben helps Dawn escape the tower.
Back in Buffy's mind: The first Slayer tells Buffy that her gift is death and Willow doesn't understand. Then they're back in the shop and Buffy puts the same book back on a shelf. Then they're in Buffy's house where Joyce's grave is in the middle of the floor. A calm Buffy then goes to Dawn and suffocates her with a pillow, telling Willow that death is her gift. Spike and Xander go to Doc' house and ask him to locate Glory but Doc tells them to stay away from her and then tries his best to cover a box. The man/demon then attacks them, as her worships the Beast and wants her to live. Xander manages to drive a sword through Doc's chest and they leave with the box. But Doc isn't dead yet. As Dawn and Ben are escaping Ben suddenly changes back into Glory and Dawn is trapped again. Ben then starts to fight Glory from the inside and they keep changing back and forth physically. Ben threatens to kill Dawn so that Glory can't return home but Glory offers him immortality if he lets Dawn live and Ben gives in and delivers Dawn to Glory's minions.
Back in Buffy's mind: Willow is back in Giles' shop and she's talking to a second Buffy while watching a Buffy that continually puts a book back on the shelf. Buffy eventually tells her that when she put that book away she quit and she knew Glory would beat her and she wanted it to happen because then everything would be over. Willow tells Buffy to snap out of it immediately and reluctantly Buffy snaps out of her coma and starts crying. Willow moves in to hug her and soon after they go to the shop and Giles tells them that the scrolls say that Dawn's blood must be shed at a certain time to open the dimensions and the portal will only close when the blood stops... When Dawn dies.

Dawn: "Don't call me 'Dawnie'!"
Glory: "Wow, you know, that actually hurt my feelings."
Dawn: "Sorry."
Glory: "Not the point."
Willow: "Wish me luck."
Anya: "Good luck!"
Willow: "Thanks."
First Slayer: "Death is your gift."
Buffy: "Death is my gift?"
Willow: "Wait. Death is her what?"
Buffy: "I wanted it over. This is all - all of it - it's too much for me. I just wanted it over. If Glory wins, then Dawn dies. I would grieve and people would feel sorry for me. But it would all be over. And I imagined what a relief that would be."
Willow: "I'm sorry. But all this.. it has a name. It's called guilt. It's a feeling, and it's important, but it's not more than that, Buffy. BuffyS. You've carried the weight of the world on your shoulders since high school. I know you didn't ask for this. But you do it. Every day, and so you wanted out for one second, so what?"
Buffy: "I got Dawn killed.."
Willow: "Hello! Your sister.. not dead yet! But she will be if you stay locked inside here and never come back to us."
