Tara and Dawn wake up to find that neither Willow nor Buffy came home last night. Meanwhile Buffy wakes up next to Spike in the destroyed building and she's totally disgusted with herself. She dresses quickly and tells Spike that their messed up relationship ends now. He tries to make her to stay but he makes a comment that having sex with a Slayer is better than killing one. Angry, she tells him that he was merely convenient for her and leaves.

Tara is making pancakes for Dawn when Willow and Amy walk in. Tara is surprised to see Amy as a human. Amy then babbles on about Willow's power and an uncomfortable Tara leaves quickly. Buffy returns home as well and she's glad that Dawn is safe. Both Buffy and Willow go up to bed and Amy heads back home. Willow lies down and tries to use magick to close the blinds but she's burnt out from all the spells she did last night and has to close the blinds herself.

Later on Anya, Xander and Buffy are still hunting for info on who robbed the museum but once again they come up empty. Xander mentions how he doesn't think it's healthy for Willow to be hanging out with Amy because they're getting too involved with magick. Buffy thinks Willow should be given some space. That night Willow and Amy are trying to find something to do and Amy mentions a guy named Rack who casts intense spells that have no burn out. Amy finds the magickal room that is cloaked from civilians and Rack invites them in immediately. His hands crackle with red energy and he can feel the power emanating from Willow. She's somewhat nervous and he tells her to calm down. He touches her and power flows between them. Once he pulls away Willow is in a trance-like state and he tells her she tastes like strawberries. While under Rack's influence, Amy spins in circles and Willow lies on the ceiling, dreaming of another place. But a demon finds her there and she fall to the floor, immoble. Somehow she ends up back home and takes a shower, crying in pain. Shortly after Willow offers to take Dawn out for supper and a movie.

Later on Buffy returns home to find Amy stealing herbs from Willow's room. She looks sick and compulsive about the herbs. Amy mentions Rack and his heavy spells and then she throws up from magickal overdose. Buffy becomes frantic when she realizes that Willow probably went to Rack's with Dawn.

After supper, Willow takes Dawn on a detour to Rack's place. She tells her to wait in the lobby while she sees Rack. Hours pass by while Dawn waits. Inside, Willow is in her own magickal world created by Rack. She hangs suspended in the air until a demon appears in her visions and she screams. Buffy goes to Spike who knows how to find Rack's place. Willow finally comes out of the room, her eyes totally black. They leave and Dawn is angry while Willow acts bizarrely. The demon from Willow's magick induced dream follows them. Spike and Buffy search the streets and she tells him that she doesn't love him. He says she doesn't love him yet. The demon finds Willow, claiming that she summoned him. Willow and Dawn run off and jump in a car that Willow drives magickally. But she's not entirely sane and drives maniacally until the car slams into a huge support beam, totalling the car. Willow is unconscious and Dawn sustained severe arm injuries. The demon finds Dawn and brutally attacks her. Buffy hears Dawn screams and runs over. She savagely attacks the beast while Spike rushes over to Dawn. Suddenly the demon begins to quiver and then disintegrates. Willow appears behind the demon, eyes blackened and crackling with energy. Buffy tells Willow to stay away from Dawn. Spike then takes Dawn away for medicaly attention, but not before Dawn slaps Willow. Crying uncontrollably, Willow falls to the ground screaming she's sorry. Buffy tells her to get up, feeling very little sympathy. Willow tells her she can't stop and that she needs help. Buffy holds her, somewhat detached.

Back at home -- Buffy doesn't understand why Willow went to see Rack, and especially with Dawn. Willow tells her that she didn't want to be just plain old Willow and Rack's magick made her feel free, outside of herself. She then promises Buffy that she's done with magick. While talking to Willow, Buffy finds a parallel between Willow's situation with magick and her own situation with Spike.

That night Willow has cold shakes while she goes through magick withdrawal. Buffy sits in her room, which is laden with garlic, clutching a stake.

Buffy: "Last night was the end of this freak show."
Spike: "Don't say that!"
Buffy: "What did you think was gonna happen? What, we were gonna read the newspaper together? Play footsie under the rubble?"

Spike: "I knew it. I knew the only thing better than killing a Slayer would be.."
Buffy: "Is that what this is about? Doing a Slayer?"

Xander: "Anya has a theory. She thinks that Martha Stewart froze that guy."
Anya: "Don't be ridiculous. Martha Stewart isn't a demon. She's a witch."
Xander: "Please, she.. really?"
Anya: "Of course. Nobody could do that much decoupage without calling on the powers of darkness!"

Buffy: "What is this?"
Amy: "It's not what you think it is- it's sage!"
Buffy: "That is what I think it is."

Buffy: "You are more than some girl. And Tara wants you to stop. She loves you."
Willow: "We don't know that.."
Buffy: "I know that. I promise you."
